California Updates CalGreen Building Codes

California Updates CalGreen Building Codes for Apartments, Condos, Hotels and Commercial Parking

On December 16, 2021, the California Building Standards Commission approved an updated standard that effectively raises the percentage of charging infrastructure in parking spaces in both new Multifamily Housing and non-residential parking (workplaces, commercial sites, etc.). While short of ubiquitous charging, and still not the equity we were seeking, these are far more aggressive than the prior codes. The recently approved building codes include even more ambitious Tier 1 and Tier 2 requirements that cities can easily adopt if they wish to. These requirements will become effective for new construction starting January 1st, 2023.
